Re-Opening Plan

We understand that this year has been challenging. We weathered the shutdown very well.

Our success was due to the great group of parents we have in our community and our dedicated staff. Science tells us that it is safe for the students to return to school (children are not considered major spreaders of the virus). We do understand that this is your choice. So we have 2 options for you.

Choice 1- Brick and Mortar 8:15-3 pm (in classroom learning) We are ready to teach and willing to meet your needs. Experts agree that students perform better when in a classroom with a teacher. This option gives parents the most oversight and the students the most support. Disinfectant protocol is in place and posted on our FaceBook and our website Lighthouse Christian Academy, Mayo Fl. If this is the option you would like then drop your students off Aug 17 before 8:15.

Choice 2- Video/Packet Option (Hybrid) This would be almost what we did in March but now it has a video lesson to go along with the packet. We will be providing support to students and parents. The responsibility of the schedule will be totally up to the parents to make sure that students stay on track and engaged in learning. It will also be the responsibility of parents to turn in the physical assignments so that the teachers can grade. Teacher will not grade lessons from screenshots or emails, the physical lessons must be turned in.

Hopefully in the near future we can get back to a normal school setting. We know our students will miss the assemblies, prayer together, Fusion Friday, and Activity Time. We miss all of you and can’t wait to see you again.

Please call the office if you opt for the Video/Packet option before August 13 (Teachers will need time to compile the packets and assign the videos. (386) 294-3089.

Re-opening School

We are adjusting to our new normal. School will open August 10. We will be checking temperatures at the door. We ask parents to stay in their cars to minimize physical contact with others. There will be hand sanitizer available at each door and in each classroom. Students will be washing hands throughout the day. Lunches may start out in individual classrooms. PE/Enrichment will be with a limited number of students. Physical contact will be a minimum.
Hand washing/sanitizing will happen between each change in location as well as throughout the day.
Teachers will be responsible for wiping down surfaces that are commonly used within the classrooms several times each day with CDC cleaning products. Pick up will remain the same except that each class will be socially distancing from the others.

If you have additional questions or concerns please free to address then to me. Office hours are from M-Th 9-12. I am available on my cell after the normal office hours @ (386) 365-2975.

Many studies give evidence that returning to school is low risk. That being said this is a family decision. Please feel free to call me if you would like to discuss.

Personal Experience

This message is from a parent:

Can I just take a moment to thank God for teachers who love their students and for a school that really cares about their children?

I went to pick up David’s school work this morning for the next few weeks and talked to his teacher, she gave me his report card for the 3rd quarter and I am amazed at how much David has blossomed in her class… He has all A’s & B’s, rocking a 4.00 GPA.

2nd grade at LES was a nightmare because David would ALWAYS question his teacher (will not name any names) because this teacher didn’t believe in God and would get mad at David when he would tell him to check his Bible because he was wrong. I get being respectful to teachers, I get teachers not wanting or liked to be questioned….but this teacher every parent conference made it seem like David was stupid and he would need to be held back if he didn’t step up…. ( He had amazing teachers K-1st who knew how to push him the right way…) this teacher just didn’t like David to question him and turned it into a personal thing…

David is gifted (not my words… tests and teachers have said it…) But when it comes to doing mundane things he hates worksheets, he wants to create, he wants to use his mind…

Today I’m thankful for Lighthouse Christian Academy, and Mrs. Terri, (Kristie Campbell Hillwig) without you helping us get him in, I would have given up thinking he couldn’t get in… and for helping him along the way as well! and Mrs. Michelle and Mrs. Connie for being awesome!!
